What is the talk about?
Michal: Why are you more likely to get a job through a distant acquaintance rather than a close friend? Are there really "six degrees of separation"? Is an enemy of an enemy truly a friend? Why do things go viral and who is going to be the next celebrity? Can we predict epidemics and wars? And who is your next customer going to be?
Sounds like a job for a "Data Scientist"! Coincidentally, this has been an increasingly popular job title in the UK and elsewhere in the past few years. Who is a Data Scientist? Do you need one? How can you become one?
It turns out the path to mastering Data Science is thorny. The good news is that there is some low-hanging fruit. We will harvest it by diving into elementary Graph Theory, answering interesting questions about highly connected data with very little maths. -
Who is it for?
Michal: Developers as well as humans!
-
What will the audience get from it?
Michal: Better understanding of highly connected data and a plethora of tools and techniques for analysing it.
-
What do you presently work at?
Michal: I work at GraphAware, where I help companies of all sizes succeed with Neo4j, the world's leading graph database. I also commit to the GraphAware Framework, a library of useful code for all Neo4j developers.
-
Which of your existing achievements do you value the most?
Michal: Finishing my MSc. in Computing at Imperial College London this year... it's been a tough one!
-
What would you like to achieve?
Michal: Help more people discover the beauty of graphs and Neo4j.
-
What do you look forward to at the WebExpo?
Michal: No prohibition this year, hopefully.
