What is the talk about?
Matthew: A brief discussion about the history of video on the web, followed by the current state of affairs. We'll talk about what's safe to use right now, best practices, then go into what's on the bleeding edge and right around the corner.
-
Who is it for?
Matthew: Primarily front-end developers and designers.
-
What will the audience get from it?
Matthew: A solid foundation for starting to use the <video> element reliably and interact with it via JavaScript, along with a look into exciting new features.
-
What do you presently work at?
Matthew: My main goal is to help people get what they want out of Internet video, and to make it as painless as possible. When I'm not traveling and working on the core Zencoder product, I'm a contributor to Video.js, the first open source HTML5 video player.
-
Which of your existing achievements do you value the most?
Matthew: Since starting at Brightcove, I've really enjoyed working on the Video.js project and think it's really cool, so it meant a lot to me to be able to build a new website for it and provide input into 4.0 and the future of the project.
-
What would you like to achieve?
Matthew: Become internet famous by creating an uber-popular open source project. Kinda kidding, but I would like to continue contributing to the open source community and have a positive impact.
-
What do you look forward to at the WebExpo?
Matthew: I'm excited about meeting and talking to people outside of the San Francisco tech bubble.
