What’s in a Story?
“Creating Powerful Content through Storytelling”
Business Hall 45 min

What is the talk about?
Marli: Even with short attention spans and a barrage of information, long copy shows time and again to be more effective than short tag lines. Why? Because users love stories; it’s how we as humans relate to one another and understand context. Through storytelling, content strategists are delivering back-stories to engage and connect with users, as we have connected to one another since the beginning of time. This talk will enlighten the power of stories and give tips on how to use them in your content.
Who is it for?
Marli: Content strategists, web designers, and UX designers. This talk is for anyone who has ever, or will ever write copy for a brand.
What will the audience get from it?
Marli: This talk will explore the gaps and overlaps in creating personalities for website brands and web applications. Audiences will leave with clear steps for creating personalities that tell stories and connect with their audiences.
What do you presently work at?
Marli: I run a one-woman content strategy shop. I specialize in creating brand personalities and vocabularies. My clients have included Motorola, AutoTrader.com, and many other companies ranging from startups to enterprises.
Which of your existing achievements do you value the most?
Marli: Creating a language that connects small startups to the audiences that need them.
What would you like to achieve?
Marli: Someday I hope to accomplish something significant enough to be interviewed on Wait, Wait... Don't Tell Me, the NPR news quiz.
What do you look forward to at the WebExpo?
Marli: I am very excited to be meeting so many content strategists and UX practitioners from around the world.
