As the people who build the interfaces, be they graphical, voice, or otherwise, we have a unique perspective, and a unique responsibility, to ensure the things we build aren’t doing undue harm on the path to becoming smarter. We’ve all read about racist bots, algorithmic features that fell tone deaf for anything but happy news, and biased data sources. None of us wants to read about the products we build that way. But what can we as developers do about these things?
What are we risking when we build smarter features? How do we identify the potential biases in the data we’re using? And perhaps most importantly: How do we use AI in our products while still being good to other humans? While there is probably no perfect answer to these big questions, we’ll answer them as best we can in this session and prepare you to make informed decisions about the AI features in your products.
