Designing for Human Perception – senses and emotions in UX

Alastair Somerville

12. 06. 2022, 09:00 - 13:00

A half-day workshop that mixes the latest in neuroscience research with experiential exercises to understand how human perception works. Learn how senses, imagination and emotion are used to create realities and how design can both enhance and destroy the ability of users to meet their intents. This is the latest iteration of a fun workshop that has been run at global design conferences, like UX Week and SXSW, and for multinational technology companies in USA and UK. No specialist knowledge is required and participants will learn both theory and practice for the development of digital and physical products.

This half-day workshop is only available for participants who attend on-site.

New Adventures in Front-End, 2022

Vitaly Friedman

12. 06. 2022, 09:30 - 18:00

With HTTP/3, ES Modules, Jamstack, PWA, TypeScript, WebAssembly, AVIF, JPEG-XL, Variable Fonts, CSS Custom Properties, Logical Properties and clamp(), Client Hints and Resource Hints, CSS Container Queries, we all are still trying to figure out just the right strategy for building websites and apps efficiently. We want to use all of these technologies and smart processes, but how can we use them efficiently, and how do we achieve that within a reasonable amount of time?

We’ll explore a resilient, actionable strategy for building fast, scalable experiences. We’ll look into accessibility, text compression, image optimization, web font delivery, critical CSS, CSS layouts, JavaScript delivery, and improving Core Web Vitals along with performance bottlenecks. We will also explore tooling, how to make sense of DevTools network waterfalls and performance flame charts, WebPageTest, and a few little utilities along the way.

In this workshop, Vitaly Friedman, co-founder of Smashing Magazine and front-end/UX consultant, will be looking into the state of front-end in 2022, with new challenges and new opportunities, and how we can utilize all of those wonderful shiny web technologies we have available today.

We’ll also talk about dealing with legacy browsers and will cover a few dirty little techniques that might ensure that your websites and apps will stay relevant, flexible and accessible in the years to come.

This full-day workshop is only available for participants who attend on-site.

Lukáš Hosnedl, Radek Pavlíček

10. 06. 2022, 16:00 - 18:00

NOTE: In-Person Workshop: Maximum capacity of 20 people (the registration is on first come, first served basis). Other conference attendees are welcome to quietly watch the workshop. The workshop is fully hands-on and you will need a computer.

Making sure your accessibility infrastructure remains functional with every redesign can be tedious. Although accessibility testing cannot be fully automated, it can still save you plenty of development time that can be spent on actual productivity.

You will learn how to get the most out of the parts that can be tested automatically, which tools to use, and how to use them in the most efficient way. Last but not least, you find out how not to fall into the trap of trying to use automated testing for the wrong tasks.
