What is the talk about?
Philip: In this introduction to Service Design I will explain what service design is and how it is different from user experience design.
I will talk about design principles that are applicable beyond the screen and how they relate to user experience and service design.
Finally I will talk about the realities of doing service design in the wild. I will compare the wonderful theory of service design with the harsh reality of large organisations, which often need service design the most. -
Who is it for?
Philip: This is presentation is for anyone involved in digital or physical product or service design, that's startup founders, techies, product owners, UX and visual designers among many others.
-
What will the audience get from it?
Philip: Unfortunately this presentation will not give anyone a manual for designing perfect services. That's the hard part that you have to do yourself.
What this presentation will give you is a new way of thinking about your product or service in a wider context than the immediately obvious one: the UI. -
What do you presently work at?
Philip: I'm currently working for a large UK retailer defining and implementing a strategic piece of service design.
-
Which of your existing achievements do you value the most?
Philip: I'd rather ask others for that, but if I have to say, I'm pretty proud of quitting my permanent job and setting up a consultancy with two friends.
-
What would you like to achieve?
Philip: I want to make a difference in people's lives through designing technology that is truly meaningful, useful and delights.
-
What do you look forward to at the WebExpo?
Philip: Meeting interesting people, listen to inspirational talks, share knowledge and learn something new.
