The Future of AI is Emotionally Intelligent

Artificial intelligence seems poised to remake what it means to be human. We struggle with how human to make our machines, at the same time as we struggle with how to maintain our own humanity. Without emotion, we won’t even get close. The convergence of affective computing and AI will bring us toward an era of emotionally intelligent machines. And, even more important, may lead us to a more humane future for humans, too.

Pamela is founder of Change Sciences, a future insights firm that works with Google, IKEA, Virgin and a plethora of visionary organizations. She's faculty at Pratt Institute where she teaches the next generation of designers. Pamela’s work has appeared in The New York Times, Slate, and Quartz and she’s spoken at SXSW, TEDx, TNW, and Web Summit among many others. Designing for happiness, a how-to on humanity-centered design, is forthcoming from O’Reilly in 2018. Pamela's currently researching the future of feelings for her next book on empathetic artificial intelligence.
